Delhi is a blazing hot, smoke-filled hellscape
“We are trying to remove some parts using
an earthmover, but small fires in garbage mounds at the landfill are
causing trouble. We have reduced the number of fire tenders to four, but
for the entire blaze to be completely doused in this heat, it will take
time,” a fire official said.
A massive fire broke out at the Bhalswa
landfill site on Tuesday evening. The entire area was covered in a
thick blanket of smoke and the residents living in and around the area
are still having a tough time breathing. A school had to be shut since
the glasses on the window panes melted and the smoke filled the
classrooms.
On Friday, a complaint was filed by those residing near the landfill site against North Delhi Municipal Corporation authorities. The residents filed the complaint at Bhalswa Dairy police station, demanding legal action against mayor Raja Iqbal Singh, deputy mayor Archana Dilip Singh and standing committee vice-chairman Vijay Kumar Bhagat.
